TwinsWorldUK goes Christmassy!

We have had a very busy summer with our children on school holidays and believe it or not, thinking about Christmas!  That was of course once we got over the fabulous efforts of our Team GB Olympians and the Para Olympics.  What a month August was and we beamed with pride!

Behind the scenes, Dee started to created some wonderful new Greeting Cards and began looking at specific items pertaining to twins and triplets for Christmas gifts.  Whilst we have placed a link to the Christmas Grotto, we have decided to also showcase some items in the blog.  We have tried not to make a habit of making our blog an extension of our selling pages, but we are very proud of the pieces that we have on offer this Christmas time and we wanted to make an exception in this post.  So what you see below are some items from twinsworlduk Christmas Grotto.  We do hope you like what you see!

The Twinless Twin

Spirituality and the loss of a sibling

I thought long and hard before writing this as part of our blog and although Dee and myself are not able to speak as having lost a twin sibling, we have lost an older brother to cancer 16 years ago and more recently our darling dad, who suffered the effects of alzheimers before passing at the age of 87.  The passing of our father was traumatic, as losing any parent would be.  We looked to the longevity of his life and how loved he was in a marriage of over 60 years.

Losing our brother was a heartache that was different and difficult for us to bear.  He left behind a young toddler, a wife, 4 sisters, devoted parents, countless friends, aunts, uncles, cousins nephews and neices.  He was taken from us at the young age of 47 to lung cancer.  Having been diagnosed he didn't have a long battle and passed quickly.

Thinking about the loss of Michael recently, we also thought how unimaginable it would be to lose a twin sibling, yet there are hundreds of multiple siblings who carry on each day without their womb buddy.  It was difficult to really talk about such a scenario and so I did some research and discovered that there are many groups and online venues who offer comfort to the lone twin and those who have sadly lost a multiple sibling.

The Lone Twin Network

TAMBA The Bereavement Support Group

I am certain that the above groups are invaluable when it comes to searching for support for the painful loss of a multiple child or sibling.

How would you cope with the unbearable thought of the loss of your multiple sibling or child.  Unthinkable, as is any passing.  Our own spiritual beliefs and personal experience of confirmation of an afterlife has helped us accept our brother's and more recently, our father's passing.  Our faith is what tells us that although they are no longer tangible they are still by our sides and one day we will see them in the room next door.

We recently created a keepsake message ring and  decided that we could create something special from the original design for lone twins to carry as a personal keepsake in memory of their lost sibling.  We have kept the rememberance memento simple in design and we hope demonstrates our sensitivity to what is such a poignant subject.

Two sets of twins and Red Leicester cheese!

That Twin Thing

So here I want to tell a story, if I may, of an incident that occurred around the time Elvis died, 1977 - but first I must digress a little to a number of years previous.  My twin sister and I were 14 and on our  holiday abroad with our parents where we met a set of identical twins who rapidly became a huge part of our lives.  We were inseparable on holiday and when we returned home, despite living some distance from one another.  Dee befriended the oldest twin and I the youngest.  We wrote letters, shared the 'Osmond' smile with each other, swooning over our teen idols and one day we were invited to stay at their home.

The four of us had been to the local fair and returned home hungry.  Dee and Liz proceeded to the kitchen where they had a discussion about cheese of all things.  Liz asked if she wanted Red Leicester cheese in her sandwich and Dee proclaimed she hadn't tried it before.  In response to this Liz cut a slice and offered it to her, Dee accepted and agreed she loved it. They left the kitchen. The conversation wasn't inspiring or anything out of the ordinary.

Our Keepsake Ring

"Our Keepsake Ring"

Since the creation of Twins World UK back in 2002, Dee has always wanted to bring a unique product to the store, something that in time people would identify with Twins World UK.  Her own design and creation of the keepsake ring launched this month, coincidentally with Twins, Triplets & More week  1st -7th July.  An omen perhaps because the manufacturers didn't deliver the supply until the middle of the week!

The name of the ring was thrown out of the air amid a brainstorming session on Yahoo chat - where most of the communication is done regarding Dee's venture.  We think it's a fitting name, representing a circle of friendship, a personal message charm.

The inscription, Born Together, Friends Forever is often used when referring to multiples and I think is an apt logo that Dee used in her unique design.  The idea is to present a ring to each sibling, hoping they will keep it forever, knowing that the other sibling carries the same.  So not only can the ring be given to twins as a keepsake, it is a perfect gift for twins, triplets and more!

Product information
This lovely keepsake is made of zinc metal alloy which is lead and nickel safe. It is 25mm in diamter with a thickness of 1.5mm.  Each ring is presented in a lovely deep purple gift box with organza ribbon. The ring is available from our store Enter Here ~

Happy Birthday Twins!

What has inspired us to write about this subject as our opening blog?  Basically, it was searching for birthday products for twins'  birthday that we hope we can add to our store selection - we are pleased to advise that this will be happening very soon!  Nevertheless, it has been a struggle as we realised that there is very little "out there".  In doing our research and asking some mums of twins if they would like to see Twin birthday products, we also reflected on our own birthday.

We certainly didn't have party paraphernalia growing up, partly because there just wasn't any 'back then' but mostly because our birthday fell on Christmas Day, we didn't have a party.  Our birthday was a little lost amid the Christmas celebrations and when of an age that we noticed we didn't have a party because everyone would be tucking into turkey, we also realised that we had been hit by the double, double whammy - joint birthday and joint Christmas gifts!  One present fits all!  "To "The Twins" - Happy Birthday, Happy Christmas!"
